Is the protocol DataTAC or POCSAG?
This slide says it uses DataTAC:
DataTac is an open standard for point to point wireless data communications, similar to Mobitex. … One of the early DataTac devices was the the Newton Messaging Card, a two-way pager card connected to a PC card using the DataTax network. (source, slide 43)
This Patent filing indicates it uses POCSAG (5648990):

However, I can can personally CONFIRM it is a POCSAG device because rpitx can transmit data to it using POCSAG at 1200 baud.
Motorola NewsCard
Newton Messaging card is the same hardware as Motorola NewsCard, different plastic (LED, switch, branding). Still features “Motorola” name on the card.
