Hard Drive
The Design Guide PDF suggests that the internal hard drive is either an XT-style IDE interface (section 8-1), or utilizes the PCMCIA interface.
LCD Screen
Visible area
- Width: 17.5cm (just under 7 inches)
- Height: 9cm (just over 3.5 inches)
- Diagonal: 19.7cm (7.75 inches)
Re-screening options
7-inch 1024x600 LCD from Aliexpress might work, with some column-boxing on the sides:
this one, 7-inch, might work too, fits width better:
Battery
The original battery is NiMH and appears to have a voltage of 4.8v. That would work out to 4 cells, because NiMH nominal voltage per cell is 1.2v. This also tracks well with the OEM charger, which uses 5.6v for charging (1.4v per cell), which is the generally recommended trickle-charging voltage for NiMH.
Can be powered from 4xAA. The OEM 6xAA included a step-down converter. Source. There is also a picture on this page:
OEM replacements such as H240AE-4GW
are 3800mAh.
Battery for Handbook has various modem numbers:
HB4BATTPACK
H240AE-4GW
HB4BATT2500
Battery also has an LED that shines through window on laptop to indicate when charging.
Battery Pinout
Appears that pin closest to the release latch (farthest from the “notch”) is positive (see image from Jeff B below), and one closest to the “notch” is negative (tone’d from thick traces on memory connector):
A/C Adapter
Adapter socket was on the battery itself, there is no power connector on the computer.
Power adapter P/N: hbkacadapter
Uses funky connector, This is the pinout of the AC connector looking at the cord NOT THE LAPTOP! (the diagram is also on the AC adapter)

Connector
Honda PCR-E28FS Connector is now manufactured by Misumi.
Other compatible Honda connectors (according to a data sheet):
- PCR-E28F{cableSize}+ - “Cable-side IDC type female connector”. {cableSize} can be: F, 0.8-1.0mm FA, 0.5-0.65mm. FB, 0.5-0.65mm. FC, 1.0mm loose. FD, 1.0mm flat. FH, 0.35-0.5mm loose. FJ, 0.65-0.8mm loose. FK, 0.65-0.8mm loose.
- PCR-E28FS+ - “Cable-side soldering type female connector”, Verical $6/ea min qty 11.
- PCR-S28FS+ - “Cable-side soldering type female connector”, chip1stop $9/ea, no min order
- PCR-28LFD{boardLock}+ - “Right angle through hole type female connector for PCB”, will require shaving of locator pins. {boardLock} can be K, kink formed contacts, or T, board lock pins.
- PCR-28FD{boardLock}+ - “Straight through through hole type female connector for PCB”, will require shaving of locator pins .{boardLock} can be K, kink formed contacts, or T, board lock pins.
Similar to Hirose DX10-28S (digikey, mouser, corestaff, chip1stop) (has clips), DX10A-28S (digikey, mouser) (has screws), DX30A-28P, DX31A-28P, but the gender is reversed! Also, might be discontinued?
Looks a lot like an MDR26 connector, but don’t be fooled! We need 28 pins!
An SCA-80 SCSI connector might work, if cut down.
Fanuc (Industrial Automation) uses PCR connectors for servos, but they appear to be 20-pin connectors mostly.
Floppy Drive
Various model numbers. But it all depends on the CONNECTOR as above.
