HP ProLiant 5000 - Spare Parts (hpe.com)

Required Parts

Tower vs Rack

Note: although the HP spare parts list has two different lists for Tower vs Rack, the part numbers only diverge on mechanical components. They both use the same motherboard, CPU cards, and memory cards

Required parts list

Note: not tested, but I believe this is what someone would need to part-together a bare/basic Proliant 5000 system.

System I/O Board004902-001219287-001
System I/O Board, P6, PCI-EISA004902-002241810-001
Processor Board without Processor004893-001219409-001Socket 8 CPU card, compatible with 166mhz and 200mhz CPUs with 256K, 512K, or 1M of cache. Compatibility with 133mhz, 150mhz, or 180mhz CPUs is not known. A single CPU can be installed on dual-CPU card
Processor Board Terminator219388-001Needed when only one of the two motherboard CPU slots is populated by a CPU card
Processor Power Module 40W219209-001aka VRM, 5v input. Also maybe 005093-001
Voltage Regulator, 48W296203-001Proliant 5500, “strictly 12v input”. See “VRM notes from Ayman Altounj” below
Memory Expansion Board004905-001219286-001
FP/EDO Memory Board004905-002219487-001“These new boards are shipping as standard configuration in ProLiant 5000 rack and tower servers having a serial number x707xxxxxxxx or higher. A single new FP/EDO board and a single original board should not be installed in the same server.”

Memory

Memory speed is 60ns. DIMM format. Not sure if both Memory board (004905-001 and -002) support FP/EDO, or if that is only -002.

Supported memory sizes are 16, 32, 64, 128, and 256 MB.

It seems memory can be installed as single DIMMs (pairs not required).

It is assumed that one memory board is needed for each CPU card, and also assumed the amount of ram installed in each is the same.

VRM Notes from Ayman Altounj

Helpful posting from Ayman Altounj from 2001:

I hadn’t come across the Matrix, but once you mentioned it, I dug a little deeper.. The Matrix answered my question.. I cannot use the VRM p/n 296203-001 because of it’s strictly 12v input.. Looking at the Matrix though, 225529-001 is the listed part for the 2500, but I am thinking the 299306-001 would work just as well… I base this on these facts:

225529 requires 5v input, 299306 will work with either 5v/OR/12v input, 225529 is rated 35 watts, 299306 is rated 40 watts, (it’s a slightly heftier regulator, so it’s safe),

If you can locate the 2500 Quick Reference Guide, both 225529-001 and 299306-001 are listed in the miscellaneous internal. Of course Compaq doesn’t help by using different terms, ie:voltage regulator module (VRM) and Processor Power Module (PPM) for the same item… Oh well… IBM wasn’t any better..

299306-001 used with the 333 Mhz Upgrade for PL2500 . 225529-001 standard VRM and should be used with the 200 Mhz processor .
